Over the years, Alessi has produced objects created by more than three hundred designers. The Alessi's tireless research and experimentation which, over the last few years, has led it to use new materials and new technologies (e.g. wood, porcelain and ceramics, glass and crystal, plastics and electronics) provides to the designers a huge freedom allowing them to completely express their creativity. Alessi is not a normal factory and I think of it as an applied arts research laboratory. We have devised a unique system of harnessing the talent of the world’s most interesting designers, and encouraging them to make use of and stretch our technical expertise. We want them to push our knowledge to the extreme. Alessi’s role is to mediate between the most interesting expressions of creativity of our times and the dreams of the consumer. We like to lead where others follow. Some of our objects are so extraordinary that no other manufacturer would consider making them; it is a risk to put them into production, but if the design feels right, I have no hesitation in going ahead. The possibility of creativity are immense and we have no limit on what we can do. For us, design is an artistic and poetic discipline.
