近几年，天津国际设计周作为天津重要的文化科技交流活动，得到天津市委市政府大力支持，在天津市科技局、河北区区委区政府和相关企业的共同推动下，历经6年的努力，天津国际设计周活动成为天津市对外交流推动设计产业发展的重要品牌活动。2016年天津设计周作为中国唯一的设计周品牌参加了享有设计界世博会之称的米兰国际三年展，展示了天津独特的城市魅力和设计水平，促进了设计产业的交流融合。

2020年是天津申请联合国全球创意城市网络“设计之都”的冲刺年，作为设计师的节日，第七届天津国际设计周将邀请国内外优秀设计专家、学者，联合国全球创意城市网络代表欢聚一堂，展示天津创意设计产业发展的良好态势，推动设计产业学术交流，促进科技文化融合发展，为天津申请联合国全球创意城市网络“设计之都”增添动力。

In recent years the Tianjin International Design Week has promoted an important cultural and scientific exchange activity in Tianjin. Strongly supported by the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government, with the joint sustain of the Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the Hebei District Committee and their related enterprises, it has now gone through 6 years of efforts. The Tianjin International Design Week has now become an important brand activity for Tianjin’s foreign exchanges related to the promotion and the development of the design industry. In 2016, Tianjin Design Week was the only Chinese design week to participate in the Milan International Triennale, one of the most important events in the design world, showcasing Tianjin's unique urban charm and design projects, thus fostering exchange and integration in the design industry.

2020 marks the final year for Tianjin's candidature as Creative City of Design in UNESCO’s global Creative Cities Network. As a design festival, the 7th Tianjin International Design Week will invite outstanding design experts and scholars at home and abroad as well as representatives of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network to gather in order to showcase and celebrate the development of Tianjin’s creative design industry, to promote academic exchanges in the field, to advance the integration of science, technology and culture, and to add momentum to Tianjin’s application as UNESCO’s Creative City of Design.
