Shaping the music between East and West
If anyone asks, what is the shape of music? The most accurate answer is: music is like water and it is shapeless. The shape of water, like any other liquid, depends on its container. By the way, music is more:
its shape is reflected in the instruments that make it pleasing to the world, the places where people play, the places where vibrations reverberate, the musical scores that give it life and the scenes that appear in the eyes and minds of the audience. There is no limit on the arrangement and performance of music, which gives it thousands of shapes. Everything could be music.
Even though these fields are not connected, there
is still a close bond between music and design. Just
as craftsmen create their instruments with rich experience, musicians can play their own music. Music, the sound to break silence, the most intangible art in the world, through the place where it is performed
or through the instruments by which it is produced, acquires its own materiality and it becomes possible
to touch. Additionally, by means of amplification or reproduction devices, the sound get its shape.
The relationship between music and design is intimate and intuitive at times, and might also be elusive and mysterious. This exhibition will explore the relationship between music and design in the context of Chinese
and Western cultures and their respective philosophy, traditions and emotions. Music is the most intangible form of art, but it can only be vocalized through physical structures. Please, from the special perspective of music, go and explore the differences between the history of East and West, the differences between cultures, relationships, and the influence on each other.
The exhibition is organized in 5 sections: Play music, The Music show, Music and Design, Design sound, Music to see.
Play music
The “invention” of musical instruments must be earlier than music.
In fact, from the very beginning, the shape, sound and manufacturing materials of musical instruments in different cultures are closely linked with customary beliefs, cultural traditions, and philosophical and religious thinking. Therefore, people can understand and interpret the history, culture, and emotions of the two worlds through musical instruments.
The Music show
Places where people play, sing, dance and where people listen, watch, and applaud: places where music is played.
Music and Design
In the past two centuries, as music became more and more “democratic”, that is, playing music became easier for everyone, therefore the interaction between music and design became stronger and stronger. It is precisely because of the design and its form that music can be visualized during creation, listening, spreading, or playing again.
Design sound
Once the design meets music, it immediately exceeds the original fourth dimension.
As a result, a series of musical devices have been created. They combine technical innovation and artistic creation to the maximum in order to add value to everyday life.Music appreciation and aesthetics become a multi- sensory, unparalleled interactive experience that makes our feelings more real and our emotions more resonant.
